End of Summer and Back to Blogging

Well, it’s been a long hiatus, which I feel a little justified in since I don’t have a  following (and no, mom, you don’t count).  :D

Interesting things have been happening in my life this summer, though.  To share a little:

  • I went to a writing workshop hosted by THE Orson Scott Card (no, before anyone gets overly excited, I didn’t do the week-long one – thank goodness, my money is tight enough ATM).  I hope to post a little about what he talked about throughout the next few months.  I think it might be useful to many of us aspiring authors.
  • I spent lots of time with my wonderful boyfriend, David Oliver
  • I started training in Jeet Kune Do with my buddy C. Michael Fontes– I’ve always wanted to learn martial arts, so this was fun
  • AND, perhaps most exciting, I got my short story, Ryuu (now known as The Swordsman), done and ready for publication in an anthology!  It’s probably a few months out still, but once it’s done I will be posting more about it.  :D

Before you go, one of my friends, a fantastic writer named Roh Morgon, is having a blogfest! Jump on over to her site and check it out!

Anyway, I hope anyone who stumbles by this had a great summer.  What did you people do?

Thanks for the blogfest heads-up. I’m excited to see what you’re going to share from THE Orson Scott Card, and Jeet Kune Do sounds cool.

I’ve mostly been revising and playing with my kids this summer.

Congrats on finishing your short story. Where are you at on your novel?

Well, to be honest, most of what OSC said was stuff people who had done research on publication would know – but a little bit of it was not what you’d expect.

Sounds like you had a great summer, and I’m jealous at the time you put into your novel… Mine stalled when I went to see OSC speak, then again when I got back and had to work on my anthology story. It’s only at about 50% completion – I can’t wait to get back to it. :D

    Hey, Paula – welcome back!

I’m looking forward to hearing about the OSC workshop. I didn’t realize this had already happened!

My summer’s been spent on the Anthology and blogging. The only writing I’ve managed to get done was for blogfests. They’re great writing exercises, but tend to use up time that should be dedicated to my novels. That is something I need to change.

Speaking of blogfests…thanks for the PR on mine! I’m looking forward to your entry!

I am glad that your father still counts.
